Surprisingly light and gotcha for Synology users
I was shocked how light in weight this UPS is. The USB interface works fine with Mac computers. But be Warned NAS users.... the USB interface doesn't work natively with Synology DiskStation. That was disappointing.

Fits my needs well
So far so good have had it about a week to replace my old 450va apc i had for around 4 years (battery wore out).I like the compact design of this, works for me, I only hook up my router, home phone from Fios, and modem to the backup. I unplugged it a few days after hooking up and lasted a good while. I can get on the internet using my old Asus netbook that I put a light Linux operating system in. Mainly to report power outage. This backup fits my needs very well.

Small footprint, but there are limitations
This unit is well-packaged, easy to set up, has English instructions, and seems to work effectively as a UPS. However, note that due to its efficient size, the outlet spacing will NOT allow for two plug ends with a transformer block (as most small electronic devices have) to be positioned next to each other, so be prepared to purchase small 8 inch to 12 inch extension cords so that your larger plug ends will fit, or, expect to only be able to use 1/2 of the outlets.

Nice Inexpensive UPS With Some Caveats
This is a really nice and inexpensive UPS that I used to replace my old 300VA unit that no longer had the number of plugs I needed to keep my router, switch, modem, and server all up and online. I haven't really had too much of a chance to test this out in a complete blackout situation yet, but through some initial testing it appears to work fine just as it should.Admittedly I bought this not realizing this was the "ultra-compact" version of Tripp Lite's UPSes. This isn't too big of a deal I suppose, but it does mean that if you have power bricks to plug in and not just straight 3 or 2 prong plugs, you will not be able to fit everything onto this device. I had to buy little 6 inch plug extenders just to be able to comfortably plug in all my equipment. This wasn't a big deal, though it is something to keep in mind.I also have to agree with other people that Tripp Lite's software solution for monitoring these is IMPOSSIBLE to figure out and honestly not really worth the time. I was hoping that there would be some simple desktop application where I could mute the UPS, but I haven't been able to figure this out yet. I think this is something Tripp Lite should work on for these products and it would provide a huge bonus to the product itself. I am docking a star because of the fact that they advertise this as if it's simple, easy, and straightforward to do once you get the UPS but it clearly is not. If it simply weren't marketed that way, I probably would give the UPS five stars.

Works on 2021 model 65” Sony X5J TV, Sony Receiver, Xbox Series S!!!
My electricity goes off during storms, our neighborhood has a lightning arrestor circuit that shuts power off momentarily during a lightning strike. I live in Michigan in whats known as storm ally. Storms off the Great Lakes hit us all year long. Last storm power went off 6 different times. This 550VA Tripp-Lite works flawlessly. Yes it does work on a new 2021 65” TV with Sony Surround Reciever and Xbox plugged into the battery side and turned on. I would highly recommend this. I was concerned about the modified sine wave issue (since this is not a pure sine wave) but the pulse width modulated sine that this uses is much better than the old type that uses a square wave generator. The modified uses a step wave much like the steps on a stair case, it is smooth enough to run modern flat screen TVs. I am very pleased how else it works. So with Tripp-Lite features, price, warranty and performance I would highly recommend for anyone thinking of using it for home entertainment system. I don’t think this would stay on a long time to use during a power outage since for my purposes I use it for a momentary outage (less than 5 seconds), if I were to use it for that I would probably go with at least a 750VA, and if you have extended outages then just use a 1500VA. (Personal recommendations) Hope this helps anyone pondering what to buy!

Three-Year Review
I've had this UPS for about 3 years now, and it's still running. I've so far had to replace the battery once but that's not unusual after 3 years. It's a UPS, it works well... I use it with my NAS (home-built system running FreeNAS), it keeps it alive during brief flickers. Since it's hooked up with a USB cable, I can have the NAS safely shut down after 30 seconds without power, and then it will automatically turn the UPS off afterwards... Neat! There are 2 cons that are the reason I rate it 4 instead of 5 stars:1: The battery is replaceable, but there is no battery access door. You have to disassemble the unit to replace the battery.2: The telephone surge protector. Despite what the description says, I would NOT use it for the DSL modem! This created hard-to-track-down issues that occurred when the phone was ringing. I connected the modem through the surge protector a long time ago and forgot about it, and proceeded to do other troubleshooting steps up to and including replacing the whole-house filter, and even running new wiring to the DSL jack. All this could have been avoided if I eliminated the UPS surge protector from the line. The seller should remove the recommendation to use this unit for DSL from the description to save people the trouble!

Not big enough for my LG C2 77" TV
After charging the unit over night I hooked up to to my TV set. It worked for about 4 hours before it trips off. 55OVA is too small to support my TV and Xfinity STB. May have get a 900VA.

The USB monitoring feature keeps on disconnecting
The unit I received looked completely different from the picture in the item description. It had only 8 outlets instead of the 10 shown. I am not sure if that is related to my woes but the USB monitoring feature does not play well with unix in general and with my Synology DS1813+ in particular. It flooded my logs with frequent USB disconnects and reconnects, about 4-6 per minute. I tried various settings to no avail, like setting kernel parameters. I should have searched earlier but this USB disconnect/reconnect issue is rather prevalent on linux systems. After killing too much time on this I've decided to give up. The USB did tell my system to shut down correctly the last time power went out, it is just that while power is available it floods my logs with all these disconnect/reconnect messages. I have enjoyed other Tripp Lite products in the past but this is a let down for me. Disregarding the USB port the rest of the unit did perform rather solidly and powered my 8 bay NAS and a 3 camera surveillance system for about half an hour before running out.

Not reliable. Does not do the job
I bought 4 of this product a year and half ago to use as battery backup when the electricity supply goes off. Unfortunately every time that I turn it on, after a minute it stays beeping and turns off. It does this regardless if I plug something in the battery backup plugs or not. I did all the research online and tried to troubleshoot it to no avail. I have finally given up. This is useless.

ALARM CAN BE TURNED OFF!
I just wanted to let everyone know that this thing works fine and the annoying alarm *can* be turned off. First off, you need to download "PowerAlert Local Software." You can Google it, and it will take you to the Tripp Lite website where it can be downloaded. After you install it, open it up, then plug in your Tripp Lite to your computer. You can do this by putting the phone jack end in on the side of the Tripp Lite (it's on the side that the cord comes out). The USB end goes into your PC (obviously). It should be detected right away (as long as the program has been installed). Then navigate to Settings (at the top right). Then look at the top and you will see "Schemes." You'll want to change the scheme to "Business Device Management Scheme." That will unlock certain settings. After that, you'll see "Actions" at the top. Where it says "Initiate Self Test," click on that it it will reveal a drop down list. Choose "Set Audible Alarm." Make sure the value column says "1." If it doesn't, change it to "1." Then click "Execute Command." All done. Alarm disabled. :)
