capping off a series
It was nice to wrap up the series and put the characters in their own little boxes. I absolutely loved the cross over to the Quinn’s. Admittedly all of Elin’s writing is pretty basic, like a journal entry but it’s very easy to read! Loved the setting of the VIs. Little hard to read about hurricane since I had a personal connection to it but it’s true, the VI is strong and will rebuild. Would love to see St. Croix be featured next time!! 🇻🇮 ❤️

Meet You in St. John
I’m reviewing the three books of this series together. They are really one story and flow one into the other seamlessly. Same setting, same characters, one long storyline. They actually could have been written as one book, but this way the publisher got three books to release: Winter in Paradise (2018), What Happens in Paradise (2019), and Troubles in Paradise (2020). I liked this series. I haven’t read all of the author’s books yet, but this series is among my favorites of her writing so far. It’s set primarily on the island of St. John in the Virgin Islands. It’s fascinating to read about what life is like on the island for those who live there year round. Descriptions of beautiful scenery and delicious food and interesting excursions made me want to visit. Most of the people we meet are youngish and white and they work at businesses that cater to tourism, such as restaurants and sightseeing businesses. There is some diversity in the cast of characters, many of whom are West Indians, including a couple of the main characters. But the extended family that is central to the plot are from Iowa. A wife (now widow) and her grown sons travel to the island in search of answers about a tragedy that occurred there. Their husband/father has been killed in a helicopter crash. They did not even know that he was visiting St. John, let alone what he was doing in that helicopter. And who were the strangers he was traveling with? And then, how and why did he own a villa there? The series follows as this family investigates these mysteries, make friends on the island, and learn not just about their husband/father’s secret life but about themselves and each other as well. The final book includes a devastating hurricane, which is a nod to the actual hurricanes, Inga and Marie, which slammed St. John in 2017 and destroyed many of the businesses referenced in the series. I wish there had been one more book which focused on the characters post-hurricane. A short wrap-up is included, but I wanted more. As it stands, I recommend this series and I also think we should all support St. John and the other Virgin Islands in their rebuilding efforts by paying them a visit and infusing some tourist money into the local economy. I’ll go first!

Don't Bother
The first book in this series was fantastic! In fact I didn't know it was even a trilogy until I got near the end of the book and realized it wasn't wrapping up. I was giddy with excitement to spend 2 more books with the characters I've come to know and love. The second was OK, nothing to write home about but I thought perhaps she was just setting us up for a thrilling 3rd and final book of the series. Oh, how wrong I was.Listen, I am no literary genius, I enjoy fluffy beach reads, I don't expect much from my poolside "reads" but the writing in #3 of this series is TERRIBLE in so many ways I can't even believe EH wrote it!- It's extremely repetitive, I'm not sure if she was attempting to make it a "stand alone" book but it's a slap in the face for those of us that read the first two. Not only is the story itself repetitive but with all the name dropping she did, it read like advertisements (I was so fed up reading about Candi's BBQ I've sworn off BBQ in protest).- Instead of focusing on the main characters and developing them, she introduces new characters that were not needed, therefore watering down the "cast" with their unnecessary viewpoints. Or she prattles on about filler characters. DO I really need to know so much about Maia's friends? I think not. EH wasted so many precious words on things that didn't contribute to the story. Not only did she NOT develop the main characters she DESTROYED them. Particularly Ayers and Irene. She got a good start on shattering Ayers in #2 but she finishes her off in #3. Irene becomes a nightmare in the 3rd book, she becomes a bitter shrew who is solely responsible for her husbands affair. I could no longer root for either one of what were my favorite characters in the beginning.- The lack of descriptions for certain things/character was seriously lacking and the tired old phrases were almost embarrassing to read. Hey guys, Cash has bushy blonde hair! (I guess that's all we need to know!)-The writing style in general came off as lazy and choppy, much like this review I am writing. Is it third person, first person? You're saying "he" but then....oh, we can read their minds! (and she uses more parenthesis than I do!) Like I said, I am no literary genius but the writing in general was terrible.- The intrigue of the 1st book and the things that hook you are glossed over or wrapped up in 2 paragraphs. The angst that was there is no longer, only to be replaced with angst you didn't know was there (Irene*cough*Irene) I'm still puzzled how Cash so easily turned off the switch for Ayers and him and Baker's bruised relationship was so conveniently forgotten. One minute they're being downright cruel to one another, and the next thing I know Baker let's Cash move in with him, cooks dinner for him nightly and braids his bushy blonde hair! (OK maybe not that last part)- Don't get me started on the hurricane. It was overkill. Unnecessary. It was as if it was an afterthought..."hey you know what we should DO?" (I say "we" because NO way did EH write this mess)- Again, much like this review, the ending was predictable and rushed, and considering we had THREE BOOKS, this is absolutely inexcusable!

Another great Elin book
Another fabulous book by very talented Elin! Book is 3rd and final Book set in St Johns in The Caribbean. As usual the booK has lots of drama with the characters And we find out what finally happens to Russell, Huck, Irene, Cash etc with a few twists thrown in along the way, as usual lots of references to food, drink and places to go on St Johns. A few characters from previous books appear also, A perfect escape from the cold October nights!

Loved the entire trilogy :)
A great trilogy for comfortable and easy reading. Elin’s style is gossipy and warm and there aren’t any characters you don’t like (unless you are supposed to dislike them). All three books were heartwarming and I was sad to say goodbye to the people in them. It’s not War and Peace but you know what to do if you want War and Peace ..... so buy and enjoy and miss them all a little bit at the end.

Disappointed
I have read every single book by Elin, all brilliant, this is the first that has dragged and I'm glad it's finished. I find it hard to beat the books based on Nantucket! Hope Elin is back to her usual style next time. P.s definitely not worth the price!

Great reading
Have now read all the books in this trilogy in less than two weeks. A story that had me hooked from the first page. The characters and the story were so explicit, it felt like I was actually living on St John.

Nice ending to a great trilogy that was thoroughly enjoyable.
A trilogy thatb is really one book broken into 3 parts. I found the 3rd book a little weaker than the first two, but really enjoyable ending.
