Given the price for one load of laundry, I almost didn’t try it. It’s expensive, but it works, and it can be worth it. It’s a bit of a process, and the steps for front versus top loading machines are a little different, but simple enough. You basically run the wash twice—once with the pre-treat then again with the other two packets.It took a few weeks to get enough for a full load of just gym clothes, so by the time I ran the wash the funk really developed and set in. But they came out of the wash smelling like nothing! No stink, no flowers, just nothing. And I really committed to this smell test, so at the risk of sounding insane I’ll admit that I took a good sniff of the worst parts of shirts and shorts. They were clean and funk free.One of the packets is designed to keep stink away, so depending on how many clothes you have to rotate through and how often you work out, this can actually last a long time. I think I can get about 8 regular washes of each article of clothing before it needs a defunk wash.

Unfortunately this didn't have any noticeable effect - and it's expensive. It also left a brown colored stain in the washing machine (final step powder).

Appears to work well--time will tell. Treated clothing did not become as funky as it has in the past, but the effect is subtle, not extreme. One word of warning--a member of our party has skin that is sensitive to detergent changes, and found the clothing treated with deFUNKit caused a rash.

How many "miracle" products seen on the internet or T.V. actually do what their over the top advertising claim to do? This one does just that.I purchased this to experiment with on one of the most offensive smelling individuals that I know. After any sort of physical activity, he throws his laundry into a pile either in his automobile, or at home, usually in the garage or on the porch. Usually, it is a week or more of use before he or his wife finally washes the now putrid pile of clothes. Normally, even fresh out of the washing machine, one still feels the need to wear a hazmat suit, equipped with long reach pliers, just to remove them from the washer!After washing a load of his cycling gear with deFunkit, this group of gear now has three weeks of use, as well as three weeks of neglectful after ride pile-sitting, and the clothes do not stink!!! (I'm pretty sure it's magic...) He has even accidentally mixed some non treated athletic gear mixed in with the treated, and the treated materials have not absorbed the stench of the non treated items!Anyway, for those reviewers that question the value compared to the pricing, just don't buy it, and continue to smell nasty! For those who appreciate a truly great value, considering exactly what you get from this product, it is worth every penny!

Pretty bummed about this product. Had heard rave reviews in a magazine. I'm not usually one to go for the sponsored reviews, but I fell for this one. Followed instructions, ran a light load. It worked on a few shirts, but no luck on all. What's worse-after another wash, back to the old smell. Be warned before spending $20 for one load--this is not a solution at all for athletic odors in clothes.

This product claims to prevent odor in athletic clothing after treatment. Although it did remove existing odors like a lot of specialty cleaners for athletic clothing, it did not prevent odors from forming. I washed all my athletic clothing - running shorts, underwear, tech t's, etc. using the deFunkit instructions. Let them all air dry just to be safe. First time wearing the clothes again, there was the normal odor associated with working out in the clothes. I don't see this product as providing anything different than Hex, SweatX, or Penguin Sport Wash. Yes, it does a good job of removing odors like those other cleaners but it does not prevent odors as it claims. One of the packets also seemed to be nothing more than baking soda, but I wasn't sure. Was really hoping this product would work.

This stuff works BETTER than I expected. I read the article about it in Outside magazine and decided that I had to try it. My son and I were getting ready to head out on a 12 day backpacking trip to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. Having been there previously, and knowing what we were going to put ourselves (and our clothes) through, I figured this would be a great test to see if this product worked as advertised.Our trek itinerary called for us to hike approximately 84 miles and we would be carrying packs that weighed around 40-50 pounds depending upon how much water that we had to carry, so we would only have a minimal change of clothing with us. Oh, and we would be taking NO SHOWERS during this time - unless it rained. Now you see why I thought that this would be a good test. Anyone who has ever been to Philmont knows the "smell" of the Home Bound crews when they arrive into Base Camp - "reek" would be a more fitting word.We ordered the product and it came in on time (thanks Amazon Prime) so we were able to wash everything we needed to right before we left for our trip. It was easy to use - just follow the directions. After everything came out of the dryer the clothes smelled just like they always do - I couldn't detect any different odor. Oh well... fingers crossed and hoping that it worked!I am happy to report back that after an actual 105 miles on the trail, zero showers, lots of HOT, HOT days with sweat pouring off of us, covered in dust and other filth, that I can report that the product does in fact work like advertised! Now when you're constantly around a dozen or so "stinking" fellow crew members during your trek you actually become immune to everyone's odor - yours included. So the real test was when we got back to Base Camp and were able to shower and change into fresh clothing that we had left behind. THEN you could really smell how bad all the trail clothes were.Everyone had to pack up all their trail gear for the return trip home and let me tell you that their piles of trail clothing was just horrible. Now did our clothes smell like it had just come out of the laundry - nope. Other than our underwear most all of it was coated in dust from the trail and other gifts from nature. However, when you held it close to your nose you couldn't smell that very discernable odor that emits from sweaty used synthetic garments. I would have had no hesitation in rinsing these clothes in a just pail of cold water to get the dirt off and then wearing them again after they dried off. Twice we camped near a stream during our trek and I was tempted to rinse some of our quick-drying shirts and underwear but I didn't because I wanted to really see how the deFUNKit actually worked.We are heading back to Philmont in just a few more weeks for another trek and I can assure you that we will be washing all of our clothing with this product prior to our departure. And based upon our results our fellow adult Scouters have decided to use if for them and their kids on their future high adventure and multi-day trips. NOTE - don't try and convince your teenage boys as to the benefits of this product as they still firmly believe that "the stinkier the better" is the way to go! I'm betting that teenage girls would much better appreciate it.

Ordering from Canada, it costed a small fortune to get this product. I had hoped for brilliant results and followed the instructions to a T. Unfortunately after just a couple of weeks, my gym clothes have that same familiar smell
