If your Samsung ice maker has started to act up, just replace it
We bought our Samsung refrigerator as refurbished and I suspect the ice maker had already been replaced once as it didn't start to fail for six years. Before that, I did have to crack the fridge open and replace the defrost sensor cable when the fan started to ice up, but for years we were safe from the most notorious issue the Samsung fridges have: the ice maker failing. But eventually, fate caught up with us. At first, the ice maker would stop making ice because cubes would form a frozen mass on the outside of the maker, making an obvious issue to be resolved (btw, heed warnings not to use a heat gun to melt the ice; no matter how careful you think you're being - when I removed the maker I found I had melted/warped a significant amount of the plastic behind it). But after a while the maker stopped dumping the ice it had made even though there was nothing frozen on the outside. The maker was just done at that point. I wish I had just bought a replacement at the outset instead of dealing with melting ice every week or so and then resorting to tray ice. If you want your Samsung to go back to making ice just buy a replacement maker and take care of it right away. It is not hard to make the repair, I watched a video on YT by "PartsDr" and it was painless. He even shows you how to run a forced defrost and put the fridge in demo mode so you don't have to unplug it or cut the power to that part of the house like I thought I would have to.Oh - as to an actual review: this part worked correctly for my model. Perfect fit, reasonably easy to install.
This fit perfect but didn't really fix my problem. The previous icemaker was broken and this fixed that, however it froze up same as the original. You need to seal the gasket around the slide out so it won't freeze. Or maybe next time just get a better refrigerator.

It fits perfectly and works
It is working so far. I've only had it for one day now.One thing to call out, the description is for the model DA97-12317A. I was shipped a replacement with a different model DA97-15217D. No harm done. When I looked it up online, it turned out to be a newer replacement model. I saw somebody call it out in another review as falsely advertised - That was my first impression too.

So poor it lasted 10 months - then died. No ice.
Total garbage. Lasted 10 months. Then died. Unbelievable poor quality. Worse, there is NO warranty.

Easy to install and works great!
I purchased this OEM replacement for my Samsung refrigerator because the original kept freezing over and wouldn't make ice. All I had to do was run the force defrost mode for the ice maker, remove two screws, unplug the wiring harness and remove the unit. This new one slid right in, plugged in and was good to go. You can find plenty of installation videos on YouTube to assist you. So far, so good!
