Drive the car before and toggle switch back-and-forth
I have a 2014 toyota corolla. I lost a key so I thought I would experiment to see if I could copy a key on my own. I bought two blanks and this device. My local locksmith copied the blank keys for two dollars a piece. My first attempt to use this device did not work as described. The antitheft light would not stay on as it was supposed to. After a visit to a local store I decided to try again in the parking lot. I also decided to toggle the switch back and forth a couple times beforehand. This time the antitheft light stayed on. I then removed original key and inserted the new key as per directions. I waited and the antitheft light stop blinking. I then remove the key and the programming device and wait a minute. The key now worked perfect. Upon Programming the second key The antitheft light seem to continue to blink after it initially stopped. Before testing the newly programmed key I decided to start the car with the original. I then used the new program key and it Also now seems to work. Hope this helps.

Worked after a couple of tries in a 2017 Rav4
Worked as in Mr Mike's comment for our just purchased 2017 Rav4. Took me three tries to get the anti-theft security light to come on solid - I was not clear about "ON" I just turned on ignition with an original working key without starting the engine, inserted dongle with switch to the left and 3rd times a charm, red light actually came on solid pretty quick when it finally worked - when security light in the top center dash, looks like a car with a key around it, turns solid red, yep, just turn it off and remove the good master key and insert the new one - after about a minute the security anti-theft inhibit light stops blinking. When inserting the green dongle it made a couple of beeps like powering on, the the two clear beeps, then a bunch of beeps for maybe 10 seconds, all as Mr Mike described. When done remove the green dongle and test.Update - success adding another ignition transponder key - still had to try 3 times before it turned the anti-theft light on solid red. However I cannot get the remote door locks to work - switch to the right, turn on, plug in, get a single beep - never get the 2 beeps where you are supposed to open the door. Will keep trying.

Kinda, sorta, maybe, might work for you -- but not me.
First, let me say that I went into this knowing that I had a good chance it wouldn't work. I had read reviews of this and other similar devices. My daughter managed to lose the original key to her 2013 Toyota Corolla about a month ago. This was an annoyance, but since we had a spare key, it wasn't the end of the world. Last weekend, she was home from college for a long weekend and it was a good time to get a new spare key made. Knowing what it cost to have a locksmith program the key from having the first spare made, I took a shot on this programmer. Following the instructions, I was able to add the remote on the key without any problem. However, when trying to add the transponder chip on the key, it would not initiate the programming sequence. I tried a number of times according to the instructions, as well as with slight variations. Nothing would get the transponder programming sequence started. Since my daughter was only home a few days and I only had the programmer and new keys for the last day she was home, I didn't have time to investigate further why it might not be working. In the end, I took the new key to a locksmith and had it added to the card without problems, then returned this programmer.

Works flawlessly
Dealer wanted a ton of money for a new key and to be programmed. Took the chance bought this device and a blank key for my 2017 Corolla. It worked perfectly and saved me $200+. Follow these directions:Close the door make sure the key is out of the ignition. Insert the gizmo into the ODBII port under the dash, you will here a couple of short beeps, insert a working key and turn it to the on position which is the second position but do not start the car. You will notice the security light blinking on or near your radio. You will here a few long beeps and the security light will stay on, remove the key and just insert the key you want programmed, do not turn it. The security light will blink for a few minutes, when it goes off remove the key and the programming box and your done. Try your key. It took less than 5 minutes.

Wow, what a mess. It did the job with modification.
It worked. Not easily though. After much hair pulling I discovered the poorly aligned toggle switch wasn't clicking all the way over, so I carved some of the casing off and it started working. Also, before starting make sure your ignition cylinder is in good shape. Mines kinda worn so I need to hold the key a certain way so the car knows it's inserted (security light goes out). The instructions are terrible. I mean, just plain awful engrish translation. These guys need to post a video.

Remote programming worked, not the transponder
I have a 2018 4Runner and I was able to program the remote. For the transponder, I was not able to get to the point where the security light stayed on. I tried to insert the master key first then the scanner and also opposite (as one of the members did) the scanner than the key. I also tried to program the transponder first (as another member did) without success. I assume this unit is partially defective as it programmed the remote. I will return it for an exchange, maybe I get lucky.

Functioned Properly for 2019 4Runner
I ordered this device to program two sets of keys for my recently purchased 2019 4runner. It is a used truck that only came with one beat up fob key. I purchased one fob 'g' key and a regular 'g' key.If you google "4runner key programming"...the first video that popped up for me showed a perfect tutorial on how to use a device. The programmer in the video was a replica of this one (different color).Anyhow, I was able to program both keys and the fob within 5 minutes. It's not rocket science. Total cost of a fob key, regular key, key cut at home depot, and this programmer was under $100. That's far less than the $300+ the dealer wanted. I am deeply satisfied with sticking it to the man when it comes to obtaining chipped keys.
