Nifty unique, low cost, compact 12VDC HDMI output DVD player with digital media support
4 stars for doing what it was advertised to do and what I expected it to do understanding its limitations up front. The HDMI output makes this a rare find.US buyers: Warning. This unit is appears not set for a region, or not set for Region 1 (North America)! I am guessing it is set for Region 0 which allows most or all regions 1-6 to play for most discs. There is no menu item I found to change or set the region code. Some research shows that RCE was deployed on some DVDs to prevent play on multi-region players. It so happened the first disc I tried, Ghosts of Mars rented from Netflix, marked Region 1, failed to play and instead showed the characteristic RCE protection scheme world region map. Then I tried Disney Frozen, also marked Region 1 and it played OK. Tried Ghosts of Mars again and same world map, so the play did not adopt the region code on first play as some can do. Tried these DVDs1. Money Pit and the Burbs played OK.2. Star Trek Into Darkness widescreen, (2013) OK3. Star Trek widescreen (2009) - incompatible region4. Monsters University Blu-Ray DVD Digital Combo, (2013) OK5. The Hobbit an Unexpected Journey,2-disc special edition, (2013) OK6. The Fifth Element Ultimate Edition (widescreen) (2005) OK7. Frozen - OK8. Ghosts of Mars - RCE world map region noticeSo this short random sample of stuff I had laying around shows it can be hit and miss. Expect some discs to not play. With that out of the way, here is the rest of my findings:My intended usage:I was interested in the HDMI output in a 12V compact DC player since I have a small boat. The 12VDC HDTV will be used to switch between 2 HDMI ports for DVD/media player and a laptop thus eliminating a HDMI switch which are not 12VDC panel mount friendly. The FM transmit feature was of interest as a back plan to provide connection to my existing marine (car) audio system by replacing the CD changer with this unit in a small locker. Last resort was to use the built in TV speakers. This product seemed to be able to meet all the requirements at a low price tag. As a bonus, it also has micro-SD,SD, and USB 2.0 ports. Saves climbing over the dinette and reaching around behind a wall mounted TV or using dangling extension USB cords.Making it play:Unpacked and hooked up to test before installing in my boat. Instructions are not in English, but I suspect most people can figure things out. Fused yellow wire (B+) is 12 to 24VDC input power. Black wire (GND) is power ground. Blue wire (FMANT) is the FM transmitter output (antenna). Fused white wire (AMP-CON) is likely external power supply for a DC powered amplifier as this unit has only line-out levels on the RCA jacks. I used HDMI output to a new Samsung 22" HDTV (UN22F5000AF). Player can set video output to various resolutions from 480i to 1080p. The TV can also upscale resolutions. Not sure if I saw any difference in quality of one over the other, but did not look into this much. I set 1080p as the default.- Volume control works form front panel knob and remote.- Has remote IR receiver- Front panel volume knob has press to mute feature.- LCD readout shows Disc, Card, or USB info and is blue background with white letters- FM transmit to car audio of you cannot hard wire the audio from the rear panel RCA jacks (not tested other than hear interference on one of my ham radio receivers). Selection of several transmit frequencies and OFF. Selectable with a tiny front panel button that toggles through selections with each press.- Front panel buttons small and somewhat "inexpensive" feeling, but this is an inexpensive play. They work fine.- Mounts in a slide-in 1 DIN bracket with rear support strap and 2 removal tools in the box.Digital Media Ports:USB Key - Tried playing videos and pictures from my 16GB USB key. Happen to be NTFS formatted, and not surprising it could not be read. Tried a FAT32 formatted device and it worked as expected.- 8GB Class 2 SDHC SD card worked the same as USB key- Bottom of file nav screen you can choose to view pictures, music, or videos.Music on USB/SD- Music audio level are much higher than movie playback audio. Prepare to turn down the volume when switching.- Verified it does not support WMV videos or a GoPro .MP4 video.- .MP3 and .WMA files are OK- Played a music album organized under 1 folder level OK- Would not play music files in the root level. It searches for the first valid folder containing music files and starts playing automatically.Photos- Played 5MB sized hi res JPG photos in slide show mode OK- Has picture preview when looking at files on media- Supports preview and slide show of pictures in folders and root levelVideo- Does not support .AVI, .WMV, .MOV, or .MP4 file formats- Does play .MPG- Does play .VOB files (Ripped DVD files on the SD card for example). It requires manual selection of the right files so fiddling required.- Play files from root and folder levelsSo overall, for under $100 this unit offers a lot of compact functionality. For a more $$ you might find a Single DIN car audio DVD player that supports more audio and video formats. I could not find any car 12VDC unit of any size, save 1, that had HDMI output, though several offer HDMI/MHL input. There is an AudioVox unit out therefor >$250 that appears to be a more capable HDMI output device, but for $250, if you can find one in stock, I elected to go with this low cost unit and connect it into my existing system components, all 12VDC. Once media is converted to the right supported formats, this unit seems like it should do the job I had in mind for it. This was a new out of the box test before my final installation so no idea on long term reliability.

Cheap DVD player, DO NOT BUY!
I just got this stupid DVD player. I was hoping that since I got it from Amazon that it, at minimum, would work. It doesn't. It ate the first DVD I put in it and I have not been able to retrieve my Grandson's favorite DVD. All of the instructions or in Japanese (I think). And when you go to the website, same thing. I want to return it, BUT I can't because of the DVD in it. My only recourse will be to break it and get the DVD out of it. PLEASE DO NOT BUY this product.

Worked good but had to return since there were no outputs for speakers and I didnt want to listen to music or movies through the tv. I guess I missed that in the description.
