Not German Shepherd Proof
The backpack pockets are large, and there is good padding on the straps. We've used it once or twice before with our one-year-old (~70 lb.) German Shepherd for just carrying her food, using a choke or different lead to restrain her. The first time I put the leash on this backpack, she got excited when she saw another dog and sort of leaped forward, and one of the front straps ripped out immediately. The backpack had seen very light use before that, and had never had the leash attached directly to it. I don't feel that she jumped forward with a lot of force, either, as she was just trying to sniff the other dog.I'll probably sew the strap back on and continue using it as just a backpack, and just keep her on the choke collar because I know it won't break. If you have a German Shepherd or similarly large/strong dog, I don't recommend counting on the straps on this pack to withstand them pulling against it.

it was not a good fit for her for OUR purposes
I've had several opportunities to take my dog on backpacking trips with Ruff Armour's dog backpack. I must say that I am thoroughly impressed with not only the design and multifaceted uses, but also the durability and comfort for my dog.The only recommendation I will make is this: while my dog's measurements and weight matched the medium size backpack, it was not a good fit for her for OUR purposes. Since we go hiking several days at a time, I stuff all of the food I can for her in the pack. The medium pack, even though it fit her perfectly, the zippers were not able to close all the way when packed to their full capacity. This is not a negative, just a caution for backpacking hikers and their dogs. I would recommend the large, as it has a greater carrying capacity and, when full of her food, fits her snugly just the same.

D ring is not safe
This pack fit my dog really well. It fit and stayed in place but there's a fatal flaw. The D ring is only pressed together. Halfway through our first hike today it split and disconnected. Thankfully when the leash fell to the ground my dog pays good attention to my commands and I reconnected the leash to his collar.I wouldn't recommend this product until the design flaw gets fixed. It needs to be welded shut.

One of the greatest purchase!
I have just tried this on our dog and to what I see, it really looks great! It's perfect for hiking or going on trails. Overall design is nice. There is a ring which we can clip the leash instead of her collar which I always kind of hated. I don't have to be tugging her around the neck most of the time when we go on trails. The two packs are awesome~ we can put our granola bars on one side and treats/dog food on the other side. And the greatest thing about this.. comes with travel dog bowls! It is really one of the great purchase that I have made. I will buy one for my in-law's dog!

It's useful, and Jude doesn't seem to mind it
I really can't complain about this backpack. It's useful, and Jude doesn't seem to mind it. He may even like it. I find It hard to keep the bag "centered" on him though. It wasn't an issue for me, but the food/water pouches could be labeled accordingly.Overall: Good purchase@dogthejude

This pack is right on que.
I ordered this last minute before a hike for the weekend and it didn't disappoint. Duke, our golden retriever, didn't seem to mind it at all. He carried his own water and bowls that came with the pack are perfect. The hike was about 7.5 miles and the pack held up just fine. 2- 16oz bottles of water and his leash fit with ample room for more stuff. I would highly recommend.

Be careful of front piece
I have not had this harness long and the front piece fell off somewhere and now it doesnt function.

Broke first trip.
Very cheaply made and poorly constructed. Barely made it one mile before the chest strap pulled completely off because of cheap sewing and thread.
