Adventure Story - What will happen next???
This story is truly an adventure for any child, especially a boy, especially one with a brother. The story compells the reader to read on. Fast read! Classroom assignment was to read an adventure and create a game from it. Needed to find a book that was not read before. What a find. The game WAS full of adventure and excitement. This assignment was from 3rd grd reading. Child wanted to purchase this book for his teacher as a year end gift. One she had not read before. Wild River - yes it was wild especially for two brothers with nothing in common. After reading this our boys talked about "what if..."

A Disastrous River Experience
There is a great deal of suspense and apprehension that build as a younger brother attempts to assist an older brother during a river kayaking experience. The younger brother isn't very comfortable outdoors and is used to passing his time playing video games, so his skills appear weak, but the video game experiences do help him solve some of his problems - a good read for middle grade children.

Book Review: Wild River
P.J. Petersen. Wild River. New York: Random House Inc., 2009, 120 pages. This realistic fiction book tells the nail-biting story of two brothers that face some crazy situations. The story is set in the summer, at the Boulder River where almost the entire story is staged. This story is written to entertain, and by all means, it does. The short chapters and detailed writing makes this book an interesting and fun read. Also, the songs that Ryan sings throughout the book offer a comic relief to such a serious plot. The main characters, the two brothers are complete opposites, the older brother, Tanner being the outdoorsy guy¡¦s guy and his younger brother Ryan as the quiet computer and video game nerd. Tanner is well known, popular, known as a local hero for saving a man from a burning house, always doing the right thing, and able to somehow always get his way. While Tanner is quiet, mink, and enjoys spending time gaming and avoiding any outdoor event. Tanner was able to talk his brother into going on a kayak and fishing trip despite all of Ryan¡¦s attempts to avoid going. Little did they know they would be faced with a life altering situation. Within the first few hours of being alone on the Boulder River, something horrible happens. The kayak meets a jagged log and the brothers are thrown out of the kayak. The story goes on to explain how Tanner is knocked unconscious and it¡¦s up to Tanner to help him! The audience is quite aware that it¡¦s a problem that Ryan is in complete charge of taking care of Tanner, wanting to the roles to be switched because this is Tanner¡¦s domain, not Ryan¡¦s. The only problem solving skills and solutions that Ryan comes up with are direct thoughts of situations he has been in when playing his video games, and a few things he has remembered from cub scouts. He uses what he has learned from his video games to help him effortlessly try to save his brother¡¦s life. Pages and pages go on to tell about the trial and errors that Ryan goes through to help get his brother rescued. A wonderful, and I would say interesting ending to the story takes place once Tanner is rescued and he asks Ryan to tell him everything that happened.A great read, I recommend for kids 3rd-4th grades º Enjoy!

It's rubbish... but the kids in my class loved it!
It's a pulp novel with very little storyline. However, I read it to my year 6 class and they loved it! There's no accounting for taste.
