Are You Moxie for A Dachsie?
This reviewer has owned countless dogs, from beagles to spaniels to pit bulls to weimaraners--not to mention several mongrels thrown in for good measure. Yet I've never owned a dachshund, and lately I've been intrigued by the possibility of having a little wiener dog running around the house. I didn't know all that much about the breed, and I wanted to know if its temperament and characteristics would be compatible in my household. So I turned to Eve Adamson's DACHSHUNDS FOR DUMMIES; what a gold mine of information!Everything you need to know about dachshunds is in this book, and I mean everything. Dachshunds are a playful, often feisty, very intelligent breed; here I learned if I wasn't disciplined and consistent with my training and regimen, this adorable little dog would quickly be in charge! Yet here in this book so much more is covered, from choosing the right dachsie to diet to essentials to health issues (including detailed info on how to prevent the dachshund's proclivity for back injuries). Plus Adamson gives a rich texture of what I would call generic tips regarding house training, and training in general, of your dog. She also lists several websites readers can visit for more detailed info on a myriad of topics, from adoption to competition (for the true gung-ho types). Alas, I learned that, cute as they may be, a dachshund isn't right for me; yet I'm grateful to have become knowledgeable about the breed, thanks to DACHSHUNDS FOR DUMMIES.--D. Told me things I would have not thought to ask
Dachshunds are Different. I should have realized as I know much about human spine care - that going down a stair or jumping off a piece of furniture is worse for their backs than jumping or going up stairs. I have not yet acquired my dog - and I love to "plan" - so I am making some ramps for the stairs and getting pet "stairs" (combined cat scratching post) - for the furniture. I have not yet found "pet ramps for furniture" - but I think this is fun! Probably treats and things will "encourage" my puppy to use the ramps.

Good beginners Doxie book
This book was recommended to me by my Doxie's breeder. I'm new to the world of dachshunds and can use all the help I can get. The only problem I've found so far is that they treat puppy nipping/biting very lightly. My puppy hurts when he bites and draws blood. I realize he's cutting teeth, but this wasn't addressed enough in the book. They suggest handing the nipping puppy a toy to chew on. That's great except when the puppy can care less about the toy and still goes for your toes!

Reader Friendly and Informative
My extended family owns a grand total of 7 adorably long and personality-laden dachshunds. This book does a great job at explaining their quirks and needs from a breed standpoint as well as tips that are good for any dog owner to know. The layout and format of this book is very simple and straight forward, making the reading experience as easy as possible. I would highly recommend this book for both dachshund beginners and long time owners of the cutest longdog breed out there!

A Must Have for new dachshund owners!!!!
I have a miniature dachshund that is very stubborn and had a lot of issues with training. He has issues such as teaching commands, getting his attention, and housebreaking him. But after I got this book I was able to fix a lot of his problems. In this book there is information such as picking out the right toys, foods, treats, and vets! Also housebreaking tips, commands, learning how to understand them, and helpful/useful facts like don't give your dog water after 7pm unless he/she really needs it! I recommend this to any dachshund owner!!!!

Great for people considering adopting Dachshund and/or first time owners, but needs to supplement this with other titles
Generally speaking the information is rather helpful from first time dachshund owners who has not done much research on the breed. Great for those considering adopting a Dachshund. However, since I have a couple of more books that specifically talks about Dachshund, this one seems to be more generalised - only 20 pages worth of information is useful to my situation. It is a nice addition to my existing Dachshund collection, but I would not say that it is the definite guide to dachshund.

Book ordered approx. 10 years ago
This book gave a lot of valuable information. Adopted Buddy at one year old. Had been abandoned in an apartment complex parking lot. Now 11. AGAIN, this book would have been rated, I am pretty sure at time of purchase.

so I was a bit disappointed. Had to buy another book
Most of the things in here are common sense. I brought it hoping that there would be some tips about pregnancy.... And there was none, so I was a bit disappointed. Had to buy another book.
