This famous female mystic should be a household name....
Beautiful transporting little book of poetry! Lalla, like so many female mystics from Japan, Persia, India, and everywhere, has been buried in history, despite her words still falling from the lips of modern-day Kashmiris. More, please! Where are the female translators, there is work to do! There is Hafiz and Rumi, but also Mira bai and Lalla....there is Basho and Ikku and also Fudaka Chiyo-ni and Ono no Komachi....it is sad that the female poets are buried, we loose so much richness, and we loose the female perspective of the human experience if we do not read these female masters.

Naked Truth Naked Beauty
In Naked Song, translator Coleman Barks does a stellar job capturing the essence of Lala's poetry. It is both basic and profound. It is both tranparent and limitless in its keen depth. Naked Song is just that...exposed, a life and soul laid bare. An open invitation for every fellow soujourner to remove their own veils and be striped of those things that hide us from our selves.

A gift of a woman!
Naked Song Sadness and gladness; sadness there are only two reviews of this book as I write, the most recent 2001; GLADNESS that Lalla is being passed on to any and all who may be brightened by the Light of this beautiful woman whose great loving seeps and shines through these poems. Thanks to all who have made it possible to meet her......

Great poems, poorly published edition
It's not the edition I was expecting. I would have preferred the larger book with a red cover. But I love the ecstatic poetry of Lalla...

Misleading
When you open it up, it admits itβs a rework of an already translated work rather than an actual retranslation/reinterpretation of the original work from the original language, which, if Iβd known, I wouldnβt have purchased this

Mystical truths that can be lived
Beautiful poems, mystic truths that can be lived. I think of it as in the tradition of direct-realization Tantra.

Boring
I was a bit disappointed with this, especially after all the comments saying it was wonderful to read. It felt a bit dull in comparison to Rumi, Hafiz or even modern poets like Rupi Kaur and Nayyirah Waheed. Maybe it wasn't the right time for me to read this sort of poem but it didn't make me feel anything, I wasn't particularly moved by any of the sentences. I will read it again to see if maybe I wasn't in the right mood and I want to give it a second chance but on the whole it was a rather boring read.
