A Love Story
It all begins with loss. Yet somehow God works out all things according to His percent will. I loved the characters. I loved the plot. I loved the way that God’s great love for us is woven into the story line. Realistic and intriguing.

Beautiful story of hardships and triumphs
I could not put it down. This story is beautifully weaved when told through the eyes of each sister to pull you into their struggles and fears.I loved that the difficulties they faced shaped who they became. Their faith helped overcome their circumstances and their love for each other was their strength. Great read

The journey of a lifetime!
I'm so glad I picked this one up; going in I had no idea how much I would enjoy it. The three sisters (Elin, Kirsten, and Sofia) are very close and have a deep love for one another, yet each one holds secrets they're afraid or too ashamed to share. These secrets ultimately lead them to leave their homeland behind in search of a new life in America. The point of view continually changes, going back and forth between the sisters. While all three sisters have a unique role and different ways of looking at things, Sophia is the one that stands out in my mind. Initially she greatly aggravated me with her pessimistic attitude, but once the sisters reached Ellis Island I was delighted to see an extreme change in Sophia's behavior, to the point that I found myself anticipating the chapters told from her perspective. She turned out to have a very good head on her shoulders, and the romance between her and the German immigrant she meets is simply beautiful. I never would've thought I'd enjoy a romance between two people who can't speak the same language, but I think it's actually one of the best I've ever read. It's very touching, and the way they used their Bibles to communicate was just *awesome*, there's no other word to describe it.As I read, I felt as if I was going through the immigration process right along with the sisters. If I didn't know better, I'd think the author had actually gone through the process herself to be able to convey such details and vivid imagery. Something that really struck me was the hope all of the immigrants had for their futures in America, they looked upon our nation with such awe, so full of optimistic expectations. It's simply amazing to realize the depth of emotion, the hope these people had for their new lives in our country, and the hardships they endured just to get here. Most of what I've mentioned happens in the first third of the book, as I don't want to give spoilers for the later parts of the story. Suffice it to say that the three sisters go through unexpected ups and downs, but as they learn to trust God in both the good times and bad, they find freedom from the haunting secrets in their past. The story tackles some tough subjects, but it's handled very well, leaving you with an impression of the difficult scenarios without giving too many details. This story of the three sisters' journey and search for a new beginning in life is truly amazing....I very much enjoyed it. Highly, highly recommended!

A great historical book about faith, love, and home
I don't read a ton of fiction books but when I do, be sure that a book this long would not hold my attention if it wasn't good. I often skip through fiction stories in order to find out how they end. Not so with this book. Although anxious to know, I read it all the way through.I found myself immediately invested in the three sisters: Elin, Kristen, and Sofia. The year was 1897. Their plight, which was both tragic and believable, led them on the trip of a lifetime. Three young orphans from Sweden immigrating to America makes for quite capturing story. The way that this story opened up caused me to be drawn in immediately.Their voyage to America was fraught with misfortune, hardship, illness, and disappointment. Such could probably be said of most who traveled to this great land in search of a better life.I felt as though the book gave me a closer look at what it really was like for those who set out leaving their countries behind, along with family and friends, to come to a distant land. Lynn Austin does an outstanding job of painting scenes vividly with her words. There was so much I'd never considered before reading this book and a great deal I didn't know about what a move of this magnitude would entail.I don't know if I could have been so brave or endured so much. This book is about bonds. It is about the love that holds three sisters together at all cost. It is also about faith and hope. Sometimes we experience incredible hardship. The flames of our faith are all but extinguished. Then God sends someone to pour out a little hope and just in the nick of time our faith comes alive again. It's interesting how contagious faith can be. Just ask these sisters.Ultimately this book is about "home." Home isn't about fancy ceilings, floors or spacious rooms. It's about so much more. You'll need to read the book to fully understand. If you are looking for a good fictional read and have an interest in history, Until We Reach Home would be a great choice. I highly recommend it.

Inspirational, intriguing, a goid Christian read
I am enjoying Lynn Austin's inspirational fiction. There is always something in the struggles of the characters and their lessons and turning to God in dependence that I can relate to and that gets me to think.

Inspirational
A story of human frailty and mistakes, all of which God uses to draw his children away from their anger, loss and shame, into his love and forgiveness. God loves us too much to spoil us and over-indulge us!
