Ramayana: A Tale of Gods and Demons

This was a required text for a Hindu/religious studies course. Of course, it's a significantly abbreviated version of the Ramayana, but it hits key points in the allegory. My single criticism is the use of the word "demon" in the translation, as it has a slightly different connotation to English-speakers from the concept of anti-gods in Hindu culture. There are many versions of the Ramayana, and I felt that this abridged translation did a great job of hitting key allegorical points. It's a quick and easy read and is an excellent tool for discussion of dharma in Hindu culture.

You're heard it before - never judge a book by it's cover. Well that's so true about this book. I bought it because i was impressed by the color and detail of the cover illustration. I was expecting beautiful full color illustrations throught based on the book description, but all the illustrations, except for the cover, are in sephia. The translation, on the other hand, reads well. It's very concise, but full of memorable imagery.

This is a beautiful art book. Some reviewers have complained that the illustrations are not in color. This must apply to the paperback edition because the hardcover is in full color throughout. For a more complete retelling of the Ramayana I recommend  The Ramayana: A Modern Retelling of the Great Indian Epic .

This is the classic tale of Rama, Sita, and Hamuman. Essential subject for Kirtan.

Really loving this book, great edition!

I am not sure how closely this retelling is to the original and ... We enjoyed it immensely. What a great stop on our 'tour' of Ancient cultures to read this important story.

Got it as a birthday gift for a friend and they love it.

This book tells the beautiful story of Rama and Sita. It is beautifully written and a pleasure to read.
