Q: Can I use it to defrost meat

You can cook items from frozen that are designed to be cooked from frozen in a conventional oven, for example, frozen chicken dippers. They are not dense and thaw quickly and cook quickly.. To use to defrost raw meat or joints of meat would be dangerous as the outside would cook before the inside . These must be thawed first.

Q: My handle gets quite hot, is that normal?

I bought my Remoska last year. It is a standard 2L 400w. type R21. I dont know the model you have. I was using my Remoska today, the handle gets hot at the lower end where its attached to the lid, that is the area below the level of the switch. It is quite cool above the switch both both upper and lower surfaces. I would not be afraid to pick up the handle without a glove. The lid does however get very hot as the element is there. I would get it checked out if the upper end of the handle is hot. Bear in mind the wireing goes through the handle, this wireing should not heat up. I hope this is helpful.

Q: Can you put in a whole chicken

I put in a small chicken , if its a tight fit you can push the chicken down to flatten it a bit like spatchcock, I cook for one hour on each side and it is really nice tender chicken, add a tablespoon or two of water to oven first for easy gravy making
