Q: Does this need an underlay if it is laid on ceramic tiles under a rug?

Apparently the rug-heaters were designed to be used on bare concrete floors without underlay. That's what the instructions say. But the sellers advise you to use underlay, despite what the instructions say I bought underlay (the cheapest stuff) and that's what I'd recommend, but I admit I haven't tried without. The sellers are really helpful if you contact them. I think they also sell underlay on their own site but not on Amazon. It's funny you asked about this today, five minutes ago I was telling someone how brilliant it is having a rug heater in my studio!

Q: I have a large wooden trunk that would need to sit on top of this as we have no way of relocating the trunk would this be ok?

I am not qualified to answer but would think not as it may overheat due to no circulation - best check with the manufacturer.

Q: Anyone used one under a rug in a motorhome?

We use ours in the living room area of our static caravan. Its fab for giving cheap ambient background heat. It takes a little while to heat up but once its heated up its great and we often don't need to put the central heating on. I can't see why you couldn't use a smaller one in a motor home for the same purpose. Make sure you place reflective silver insulation down underneath the rug first though to reflect the heat back upwards into the room space. We got a small roll from Wickes and cut it to size. Firstly, tape the insulation to the floor area, then tape the edges of the rug buddy to the rug sized insulation and then just place your rug on top. Enjoy having cosy feet and a cosy motor home.

This product is normal household voltage for UK. It would probably work on lower voltage but it will not generate same heat, I think but not an electrician. We love it in static caravan, it takes a wee while to heat up but after that it is brilliant under our feet and generates a good background heat along with central heating. Not too expensive to run either.
