Brain Training For The Highly Sensitive Person: Techniques To Reduce Anxiety and Overwhelming Emotions: An 8-Week Program

I was disappointed in this book
The author gives very little help, she merely instructs. I was unable to finish the program as I had no idea what she was asking me to do. The author needs to describe her assignments so that they are more understandable. Also, some of her assignments tell you to do exactly what you are trying to learn how to do. Well, duh, I wouldn't be reading about how to care for my brain if I already knew how to do it. For instance, she says to write down some of the ways you can practice self-confidence. If I knew ways to do this, I would just do it... I wouldn't be reading this book! It appears to me that the author wrote an outline of her book, then she forgot to fill in the body.

Good Information
Good information, but content was limited considering the price of the book. Format seemed more akin to notes from a professional presentation, than an actual book. Great beginning resource for those just discovering the HSP traits, but there any many more books on the subject with more depth of material. Was shocked by the brevity of this book. A very slim volume.

Easy Practices to Reduce Overwhelm
As a Highly Sensitive Therapist, I see my clients struggle the most with anxiety and overwhelm, feeling helpless to overcome it. In Brain Training for the Highly Sensitive Person, Julie shows that being overwhelmed is not a permanent way of life for us HSPs! By increasing self-awareness, using tools such as breath work and practicing daily self-compassion, it is possible to live a more calm and focused life! Who doesn't want that?!Many times it can feel overwhelming just trying new things and we can end up more overwhelmed, but in this book Julie lays out clear and simple steps to help you thrive as a Highly Sensitive Person. I felt so understood and soothed by reading her book - you can tell that she really gets it and has a passion for helping HSPs live more fulfilling lives. If you're struggling with constantly feeling anxious and overwhelmed, this book will be a great tool to understand why and help you get relief.

Worth the journey.
Excellent book. Still working through it. At first the exercises made me look at an experience that I had swept aside to keep from having to deal with it. This will depend on you and your own experiences. There is nothing frightening in the book. She walks you through in a very hand-holding fashion, so if you do have something you are still angry or hurt over, you will not smack head on into it. The best part is that as you work through the book, you start to make peace with yourself and move forward. Good guide for HSP on how to live happily in this world.

Ehh
Not really any new information in this book. If you are new new to this concept you may find tidbit of info worth exploring. Doing the 8 week program certainly will not be enough. Too simplistic.

Read it!!!!
When I saw how well both Rick Hanson and Ted Zeff reviewed this book, I knew I wanted to read it!. I recently learned about being an HSP and found this book to be really helpful in learning tools that have helped me in my daily life to reduce my anxiety, stress and the feeling of being overwhelmed. I highly recommend reading this book. You will definitely learn about your traits. It might just change your life.

I do believe it worked!
The information is not new to me at all - but I think what helped magnificently is the way it was organized and especially the explanations on how the brain of an HSP is wired and works. Understanding that is one of the best ways to feel more at home with the trait. The positive tank exercise was eye-opening as I discovered that one of my closest friends of 25 years realised my sensitivity and associated traits as far back as high school. I thought I was being "nice". Since doing this training, I have found that I am responding in a more calm manner to many things that irritated me once including being around folks in the grocery and looking out at the cityscape from my home. I also did not respond in an over emotional way to an event that happened in May - I think that alone made the whole situation better. They way I think about a few topics have also reduced in intensity! Enjoyed and will recommend!

I feel like I need to read a book about HSP and ...
I bought this book encouraged by the 5 stars, but for me because I'm already familiar with neuroscience and Buddhist compassion practices, I was expecting a lot more for the price of the book. It's a thin book. I feel like I need to read a book about HSP and then use this book as a manual.

Great read for HSPs
This is a short but powerful book, written specifically for people who experience anxiety and are easily overwhelmed. Unlike others, this book gives practical advice for tempering the mind and living with less anxiety and more self-compassion. Although I've read a lot on the topic, I found some new nuggets of wisdom in this book. Highly recommended.

d i s a p p o i n t i n g ~
a disappointing read so far. by chapter 4, i've yet to find a/ any illustrations, diagrams, or visual material, b/ any scientific sources cited, c/ any other experts referenced. i find the prose bland & repetitive : we seem to keep going over & over the same basic material, without deepening, adding 'spice', or offering real pith. the author makes clear her laudable desire to help others ~~~ yet she also relentlessly self~promotes her own books & courses, which leads to a feeling of solipsism. perhaps the book vastly improves in the second half? i've yet to see. but so far, i find it sadly disappointing ~~~ given all the amazing new neuroscience findings, resources, creativity one *could* bring to bear on the subject, to create something truly stellar? it seems lacklustre to me. as an aside, the author boldly asserts that 'shallow breathing' under duress 'increases' oxygen to the blood. ummm. not found any proof of this anywhere ~~~ usually the opposite is true.
