AAA Battery Flashlight with a Push-Button Clicker Tail Switch and Pocket Clip
Fenix Flashlights FX-LD02 Series Flashlight with Battery 100 Lumens, Black I prefer push-button clicker switches on my pens and on my penlights, instead of twist-action, although the twist-action type AAA flashlights have been compact and reliable. I have the 72-lumen maximum brightness Fenix LD01 and the 85-lumen maximum brightness Fenix E05 2014 edition, but I wanted to get the Fenix LD02 because of the push-button clicker tail switch. So, I ordered the LD02 through Amazon.com and waited for it to be shipped from China. It came in seventeen days.So far, the main reason for my purchasing the LD02, the push-button clicker tail switch, has worked well with no problem. I prefer forward clickers with a momentary on capability, but I also have used flashlights with reverse clickers, so I knew what to expect with the reverse clicker switch of the LD02. However, if the push-button clicker tail switch is not strongly desired, then other characteristics of the LD02 may be of interest or concern. The push-button tail switch does protrude and prevent the LD02 from standing on its tail, unlike the LD01 and the E05, which can stand on their tails. The LD02 does not have a memory of the last setting used, so every time that it is turned on, it turns on first at the middle brightness level, requiring cycling through next the lowest, and then the highest - 25, 8, and 100 lumens. Similarly, the Fenix E05 2014 edition does not have a memory of the last setting used, so every time that it is turned on, it turns on first at the lowest brightness level, with cycling through next the middle level, and then the highest level - 8, 25, and 85 lumens. The model that provides the desired level on turn on may be the most convenient to use. For my daily office use, I prefer the middle setting to turn on, rather than the lowest setting, so I prefer the LD02 and its predecessor LD01, but the smaller size and lower price of the E05 may make it a better buy for many.If the highest brightness level is desired, neither model provides that highest brightness level on turn on. Because of the different mechanism for changing the brightness levels, the E05 requires four twists after the initial turn on - twist off. twist on for the middle level and then twist off, twist on to reach the highest level. On the other hand, the LD02 requires only two taps on the push-button clicker tail switch - click on to middle level, tap to the lowest level and tap to the highest level. For me, the taps of the tail switch are easier and faster to do than the twists, but, for those who prefer the twist action, after the LD02 is turned on with the clicker tail switch, the LD02 can also be turned off and on and cycled through its brightness levels by twisting the flashlight's head in the same manner as the E05.Speaking of the various levels, in my opinion, both the LD02 and the E05 2014 edition have comparable brightness levels with broad beam spots for close up use. Held side by side and cycled through the various levels, the projected spots look the same to me, even the highest level of 100 lumens for the LD02 and of 85 lumens for the E05 2014 edition. By the way, the accompanying paperwork for both models say that the flashlights stay on at the highest level only about three minutes and then will dim to the middle brightness level, requiring "reset" to return to the highest brightness level. If the 100 or 85-lumen level of brightness is desired for continuous use, other flashlight models may suit your needs better. The Fenix E05 2014 edition comes with a key ring and a spare O-ring. The Fenix LD02 comes with an installed (but removable) body clip and a spare O-ring - the accompanying paperwork also lists a key ring as an accessory, but no key ring was included in my flashlight's box. I was not planning to use a key ring on the LD02, anyway.I have been using the LD02 clipped to my shirt pocket. The LD02's clip has very little spring tension compared to the clip on the LD01. The advantage is that the clip of the LD02 will cause very little wear on the shirt pocket material. The disadvantage is that the clip's resistance is overcome by the weight of the LD02 with an installed battery - if you bend over so that the flashlight is upside down when it is clipped to the shirt pocket, the flashlight will fall out of the pocket (fortunately, my LD02 fell on carpeted floor at work and was not damaged). I believe that the clip on the LD02 may be the worst pocket clip I have gotten on a flashlight and is a significant disappointment. The LD02 that I ordered through Amazon.com cost $35.99 and took seventeen days to come from China (no cost for shipping). My smaller E05 2014 edition cost me $20.95 (currently listed at $19.95) from Amazon.com and took eight days to be delivered (also free shipping). Depending on what features you consider to be desirable in a single AAA battery LED flashlight, the LD02 may not be the best value for you.

Great pocket flashlight
Great little light. Fits in my pocket easily and provides considerable light for such a small package.

Very nice light, but I went back to my LD01 ...
Very nice light, but I went back to my LD01 after trying the for a few days. I cannot get used to the clicker and I find that the twist on in this size worked better for me. But thats just me. It is very well made and bright. I would go for the LD01 if you want to save some money. Fenix makes fantastic lights and AAA is the way it go, despite how people rave about the CR123's or whatever. I like how AAA is available world wide and I run lithiums in all of mine and it lasts months and months of daily use. Ive sent mine by accident through the wash and dryer at least 6 times and never had a problem. Seriously!
